"Now I saw heaven opened, and
behold, a white horse. And He who sat on him was called Faithful and
True..." (Revelation 19:ll) Repeatedly throughout scripture our
Lord reminds us and assures us of His faithfulness to His word and to
the promises He has given us, from Genesis to Revelation. "Let us
hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who
promised is faithful." (Hebrews 10:23) "If we confess our
sins, He is faithful and just to forgive our sins and to cleanse us from
all unrighteousness." (1 John 1:9) "Therefore know that the
Lord your God, He is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and mercy
for a thousand generations with those who love him and keep His
commandments..." (Deuteronomy 7:9) "...Kings shall see and
arise, princes also shall worship, because of the Lord who is faithful,
the Holy One of Israel; and He has chosen You." (Isaiah 49:7)
The quotes go on and on encouraging
us that He is faithful and to trust His word...He is worthy to be
trusted, trustworthy. He cannot lie because He is not only True, but He
is Truth. When the rainbow colors are used in worship, it appears at
first glance that we are reminding ourselves of His faithfulness. That
is only partially true. We are also reminding Him of His promises.
After the flood, the earth dried and
Noah and his family left the ark with all the animals. In gratitude for
their salvation, Noah built an altar and offered sacrifices to God Who
was their Refuge during the storm. God was pleased with the aroma and
promised "never again shall there be a flood to destroy the
earth." He went on to explain, "This is the sign of the
covenant which I make between Me and you, and every living creature that
is with you, for perpetual generations: I set My rainbow in the cloud,
and it shall be for the sign of the covenant between Me and the earth.
It shall be, when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the rainbow shall
be seen in the cloud; and I will remember My covenant which is
between Me and you and every living creature of all flesh; the waters
shall never again become a flood to destroy all flesh. The rainbow
shall be in the cloud, and I will look on it to remember the everlasting
covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is
on the earth." (Genesis 8:12-16)
The rainbow is actually a
"string around His finger" to remind Himself of His promise!
Could He forget? No...the only thing He forgets is confessed sin. Would
He forget His Word? Never! Psalm 105 recounts that "He remembered
His holy promise..." He does not ...just in case we get a little
doubtful or fearful and think He is forgetful, He is telling us He has
written Himself a reminder to put us at ease!
Thank You, Lord, for always being
faithful to Your promises. I worship You as my Faithful and True
Knight-King on a white horse. No matter what disappointment I may have
ever experienced from people, I will never encounter that with you. You
will never betray Your promises to me. I stand under the banner of Your
rainbow with confidence in Your character and trust in You. You are
worthy of my praise and You are worthy of my trust! Come, Faithful and
True, inhabit my praises according to Your precious word, and cause me
to be among the Noah’s of this hour who will build an ark of Your
presence through our worship...an ark of Your glorious presence where
others can find security and a safe haven in You, regardless of any
outer circumstances.
