Our nation has been engaged in a
major spiritual war for decades. We have most recently drawn a line
which was crossed, and we now find ourselves entering into a new level
of war in the natural realm. The enemy has not changed, he has simply
put on yet another new face. We must pray that God is for us, and if
that is so, who can stand against us? He alone is our power and strength
in this time of war.
A well-known “strength” name
of God is El Gibbor, meaning Mighty God. A well-known passage where this
name appears is a messianic prophecy in Isaiah. Israel had become
discouraged at the possibility of losing a military conflict. What the
nation actually needed was spiritual revival. God promised them a
Messiah who would come and save them…“For unto us a Child is born,
unto us a Son is given; and the government will be upon his shoulder.
And His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God (El Gibbor), Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace” (Is. 9:6).
Moses first applied the term
Gibbor to God when he said, “For the Lord your God is God of gods, and
Lord of lords, a great God, a mighty (gibbor), and an awesome God…”
(Deut. 10:17). In Psalm 24:8, David exalts God as “the Lord strong and
mighty, the Lord mighty in battle” as he celebrates military victory.
“Gibbor” here is an adjective which implies exceptional physical
strength and agility, and is used frequently of men mighty in battle.
Lord, You are El Gibbor, the
power and strength that will conquer the invisible enemies of our
nation. Be the might of our military forces. We place our confidence in
You, Almighty God. May we not become discouraged as we trust in You, and
may we see Your strength and might lead America into the spiritual
revival we so desperately need.
The beautiful new hand-painted
silk flag is 45”x45”. Tones of yellow and gold with touches or
orange, depict the glory and might of this warrior, El Gibbor.
