Christ, the
Anointed One
“You are the Christ, the Son of the
living God.” (Matt.16:16) We
join with Peter in answering Jesus’ question, “Who do you
say that I am?” as we
exalt Him as The Christ, the Anointed one with this flag made of
olive-oil greens, and marked as with droplets of anointing oil.
In Psalm 92:10, David refers to having been anointed with
“fresh oil.” The literal translation is green oil, which some
interpret to mean newly-made oil, but other say it is an oil made from
green, unripe olives like the beaten oil of the sanctuary. This oil
would be pressed from the nut without the process of boiling (more oil
is extracted by boiling, but medicinal oils are nearly always “cold
drawn” and therefore very dear due to their rarity).
Green oil is, therefore, considered the most precious and the
most pure.
Oil was used to anoint kings and costly oil was
poured out on Jesus’ feet. It
is our desire to pour out the costly anointing of our worship on His
feet today and to assert, affirm, agree that Jesus is the fulfillment of
the scripture which He Himself quoted from Isaiah: “The Spirit of the
Lord God is upon Me, because the LORD has anointed Me to preach
good tidings to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to
proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those
who are bound; to proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD and the day
of vengeance of our God; to comfort all who mourn, to console those who
mourn in Zion, to give them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for
mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they
may be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that He
may be glorified.” (Isaiah 61)
As we glorify Him as our Anointed One, we ask Him
to release His presence, His anointing in us and through us as
Christians, His followers. We
desire to carry the essence of Who He is wherever we go, having the same
anointing power resting upon us as we follow in His footsteps.
We desire to have others come to recognize Him in us and through
us, building His kingdom for His glory throughout our cities, nations
and the earth.
