SIGNALS

Flags have long been used to send signals and as a means of communicating. We would like to take this opportunity to send a vibrant signal to all who are receiving this first newsletter:

We appreciate how our Lord has intersected our lives with yours. Glory to the One Who directs our footsteps!

Our vision is to communicate via postal mail and internet on a quarterly basis, bringing clarity and revelation regarding flag ministry in worship. Information will focus on worship, flag ministry, and names of God, as well as our calendar of events. Internet informational updates will appear more frequent, as led by our Lord.

To each of you, especially those we haven't seen for a while,

WE ARE EAGER TO HEAR FROM YOU!

If you are not interested in receiving future newsletters, we would also appreciate hearing from you, to prevent unnecessary expenditures for the ministry. Please contact us by phone, fax, e-mail or web site.

For His Glory!

Betty and Kathy

JEHOVAH NISSI

Often, the first scripture that comes to mind related to banners is from Song of Solomon 4:2 where the Shulamite says to the daughters of Jerusalem, "He brought me to the banqueting house, and his banner over me was love." This verse has been a source of comfort to many and rightly so.

Because we frequently hear the context of banner connected with love, we tend to limit our concept of Jehovah-nissi to a romantic understanding. However, the revelation of Yahweh as our actual Banner goes back to the verse in Exodus 17:15 where Moses recognized that it was the LORD Himself, His very presence, that had brought the victory for the Israelites against the Amalekites.

"And Moses built an altar and called its name, The LORD-Is-My-Banner" (Exodus 17:15). Yahweh-Nissi or Jehovah Nissi, is the Hebrew translation. Nissi is considered to be a polelike standard or rod under which communities or armies gathered or rallied. When it was lifted up, it called the people together to a central meeting point for instructions. Some schools of thought also suggest that "Yahweh-Nissi!" could have been a battle cry. That certainly makes sense and it has definitely become one in many prayer circles these days.

Jehovah-nissi, then, has its origin as a war name for God. We must know Him not only as the One Who goes to war on our behalf, but also as the One Who loves us so deeply that He is moved with passion for His bride. This intense passion causes Him to arise and go to war for her, routing all her enemies.

Two keys that can be obtained from Strong's definitions are:

#5264 - nacac (pronounced naw sas') which is a root word meaning "to gleam from afar, i.e., to be conspicuous as a signal...to raise as a beacon: lift up as an ensign, standard bearer." There is also a reference to #5263 which is a word meaning to wane, and it is thought that perhaps this indicates the flluttering of a flag.

#5251 - nec (pronounced nace) is derived from nacac and means "a flag; also a sail; by implications a flagstaff; generally a signal; fig. a token: -banner, pole, sail, (en-) sign, standard.

There is another word found in Strong's Dictionary and it is "dagal" (pronounced daw gal'). This word means "to flaunt, i.e., raise a flag; fig. to be conspicious: (set up, with) banners, chiefest." Springing from this root is the word "degel' (pronounced deh' gel) which is also defined as "a flag: banner, standard."

Jehovah-nissi, reign in victory!

PRINCE OF EGYPT - HIDDEN AMONG FLAGS

"And when she could no longer hide him, she took for him an ark of bulrushes and daubed it with slime and with pitch, and put the child therein and she laid it in the flags by the river's brink." (Exodus 2:3 KJV)

Isn't it amazing that one of the only references using the actual word "flags" in scripture (and even found in the King James translation) doesn't literally mean banner at all? Yet, the prophetic message for today is profound.

Moses, the destined deliverer of the Israelites was hidden in an ark nestled among plants, which happen to be called "flags," along the edge of the river. Jesus is our Deliverer, and more precious to us than Moses was to Pharaoh's daughter. We have discovered the ark of His presence in the midst of worship with flags, which have grown up or sprouted up along the brink of the River of Life!

Sons and daughters of the King are being hidden among the flags, carrying the Spirit of Deliverance. Holy Spirit has clothed Himself with these sons and daughters in the same way scriptures tell us He clothed Himself with Gideon. The hour has come that the sons of God be revealed and show forth the glory of their God in the earth.

Because He inhabits our praises, as we worship Jesus, our Deliverer, He manifests His delivering presence. He is more than the Prince of Egypt, He is the King of Kings and Lord of Lords in our midst. JESUS is THE STANDARD, but with His life in us, WE become His LIVING STANDARDS in the earth and as awesome as an army with banners! (Song of Solomon 6:10)

ASK, SEEK, KNOCK

"Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock and it will be opened to you.'' (Matthew 7:7)

The Hebrew word for "ask" used in this verse means to request or to petition. Wings of Worship ministry is being lifted by the wind of the Holy Spirit and we are holding on to our hats and the hem of His garment as He moves rapidly forward. We are convinced of His call and direction during this historic hour, but also recognize our human limitations. We believe this is a strategic hour when He is expanding the vision by multiplying the hands that touch it.

Simply put, we are petitioning the body of Christ for help, only as the Lord might lead. While financial support would be an appreciated blessing, we have some practical needs that you or someone you know may be able to fill. We believe that our Lord is redistributing resources among His people. Recycling, if you will...taking what we don't use and putting it into the hands of those who do need it, and vice-versa. Here's our list...let us know how we can help you or pray for you!

  • Industrial Sewing Machine
  • 4 Thread Serger
  • Screen Printing Equipment
  • Van (we can barely squeeze ourselves in the car after it is loaded for a conference!)
  • Fabric from mission trips to the nations (used to make intercessory flags for those nations)
  • Increased work space
  • Seamstresses
  • Volunteers to help with painting flag poles, mailing, typing and general office work
  • Conference helpers
  • Publisher for manuscript about historic, scriptural and prophetic significance of flags, especially as used in worship.
  • Additional intercessory covering for the ministry, as well as for the manufacture and distribution of Glory Flags. (We do have an excellent Board of Directors, who serve as advisors, pastoral covering, and accountability relationships. Even so, more spiritual warriors in the midst of expanding our borders would add welcomed strength.)

"See the flags waving as the enemy attacks. Cheer them on, O Israel! Wave to them as they march against Babylon to destroy the palaces of the high and mighty. I, the LORD, have assigned this task to these armies, and they will rejoice when I am exalted. I have called them to satisfy my anger." Isaiah 13:2,3 New Living Translation
